The Reason Why Your Glutes Never Change

There's one MAIN reason why your glutes never change:  YOU'RE NOT TRAINING THEM CORRECTLY.

Does diet factor in.  Yes.

Is there a possibility you've got some fat sitting on top of them?  Yes.

Here's what you need to know:  GLUTES ARE MUSCLES.  And while fat reduction is important, in order to change the shape of the glutes, you've got to change the shape of the muscles underneath the fat.

Catch your breath for a sec, my Cardio Friends...let's be anatomic about this.  (lol)

Your butt looks how it looks because of your anatomy.  If we were to peel back the layers starting with your skin, we'd have the skin, and underneath that a layer of fat.  Underneath the fat is muscle.  And underneath the muscle is your pelvic bones.

This is not a trick question-which of those things (skin, fat, muscle and bone) can you actually SHAPE and SCULPT?

Only MUSCLE.

So that means, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT-YOU GOTTA GET THOSE GLUTES UNDER LOAD AND TENSION.

Now maybe you don't want a juicy bubble butt, but if it's tight and toned glutes you want, that's accomplished by muscular development NOT ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF CARDIO.  Take a moment to finish choking on your saliva-I know that's a big leap particularly if you've always been a Cardio Bunny.  And a little cognitive dissonance never hurt anybody anyway.

If You Want The Right Answer, You've Got To Be Sure You're Asking The Right Question

If you've been asking yourself why your glutes never change, and feeling frustrated (like I was) that despite your best efforts your glutes are somehow "resistant" or fated to stay the way they are, I encourage you to have an honest conversation with yourself and ensure you're asking yourself the right question.

That question is:  "Has endless amounts of cardio yielded the glute result I've wanted?"

I'm only laughing right now because it wasn't long ago I had my Eureka moment and realized that my continuing to do the same thing over and over again (endless cardio) expecting a different result (nice glutes) is actually Einstein's definition of insanity.

In Order To Get Something You've Never Had, You've Got To Do Something You've Never Done.

And in the Quest for Beautiful Glutes, that means to get thee to thy weight room and squat.

Standard squats, plie' squats, one-legged squats, pistol squats, jump squats...there's a billion different ways to go about them, but for heaven's sake-SQUAT.

To be honest, fair, and to properly align your expectations-creating the glutes of your dreams will require more than squats.  But we gotta start somewhere; hands-down...squats are one the easiest places to begin, and one which yields a tremendous ROI on your resources of time, effort, and energy.

"But I Don't Even Feel My Glutes When I Squat."

I cannot tell you how many people tell me (and remember I was no exception!) that they don't really feel their glutes working when they squat.

See?  You're not crazy.  There's a bunch of reasons why you can't feel your glutes working when you squat.

Here's the 5 most common that I see:

1)  Quad Dominance.

2)  Lack Of Hip Mobility.

3)  Weak Mind-Muscle Connection.

4)  Glute Restrictions.

5)  Improper/Escape Movement Pathways

Our next blog post goes into each of these more in depth, and shines some rays of hope on your Quest For Beautiful Glutes to also make them Strong and Functional.
