Charge Through Your End Of The Month Sales Goal Without Feeling Like You Got Run Over By A Truck
It's the end of the month-and for anyone who operates in Sales-we know what that means:
All Systems Go.
Revving Your Engine and Shifting into High Gear to blow past your targets and position yourself ahead of the game for next month.
The end of the month becomes a full-fledged competitive event to out-do past performance and Dominate the Leader Board.
In sales, there is always the savage hunter who shows up with saliva virtually dripping from the corners of his/her mouth ready to close more deals these last few days than anyone else.
They push themselves beyond and forgo sensible sensibilities-living on energy drinks, pizza and donuts for a solid 72 hours.
And it's all well and good until...The day AFTER the last day of the month.
There you will find them passed out on their couch, lookin like they just crawled out from under a rock for the next 48 hours while they recover.
Now maybe you've never witnessed this phenomenon, but I promise you it's a thing.
I never really understood why it had to be that way. Every month. For all the years.
Draw whatever hypothesis you want, but one thing is for sure: There's a better way to do this.
Be Advised: I am most certainly NOT investing my time to go out and change the culture of the Industry. And by now, the peeps who could really benefit from this have already lost interest and have moved on.
Now that they're gone, I'd rather have an intelligent conversation with you-the individual who is ready to jump off the crazy train and do things a little smarter so that you don't wake up the day after feeling (and looking) like you got run over by a truck.
How's that sound?
Great.
First of all, let me be the first to congratulate you. It isn't often that someone breaks the mold of "how we've always done it," and stepped up their game to achieve what was once an impossible feat.
It takes courage.
It takes Heart.
And in my opinion, it takes a whole notha' level of crazy, because it requires more forethought, more organizing, preplanning and yes-work to stay on track.
And don't think for one second that I am above this. I say "crazy" with all of the love in the world, because let's face it: All of us Sales Pros are straight up crazy. It's a fact (and in case you never thought about it, if you're an entrepreneur-YOU'RE IN SALES.)
I mean who else is willing to assume all responsibility to venture out into foreign territory and PRODUCE?
No guarantees.
No safety nets.
Nothing but a burning desire to break all glass ceilings and carry the load on their backs?
Uphill.
Both ways.
In the snow.
With Old Man Winter blowing sub-z temperature winds at you so fierce it cuts your face?
And even though it hurts, for some reason-WE LOVE IT.
If that isn't crazy, IDK what is.
So now that we're fast friends, let's dive in and give you a few pearls that'll keep your engine purring like a kitten all month long and allow you to produce at high levels without succumbing to the End of the Month crazy train.
1) Stay Tight On Your Meal Plan. Bring your meals with you, keep them close to you, and cut everything up into bite-sized pieces so that you can shovel everything into your mouth without wasting any time. Having them handy obviously keeps you on the up and up of energy-and off the volatile yo-yo cycles you get with sugar and highly processed foods
2) Push More Water. Did you know that the more you talk, the more water vapor you blow out in your breath? Do whatever it takes for you to get it in. For me-I carry a gallon jug. I've tried to carry the pretty little bottles, but once I am in production mode-I don't want to break my flow and go seek out a water fountain to refill it. The gallon is straight up a pain in the A$$ to carry around, but I'm tellin ya-it's a lifesaver; not to mention a VISUAL indicator of how much water you've drunk.
3) Reduce stimulants. I know, I know-it' seems counterintuitive. But anything that causes your nervous system to go into Fight or Flight taxes your adrenals and lands you flat on your A$$ in burnout. Caffeine, electronics, chocolate, supplements nicotine and illicits. Check yourself and adjust accordingly.
4) Put Into Place A Bedtime Ritual. This helps you "come down" from your day. This dovetails into #3-but SHUT OFF your electronics-INCLUDING YOUR PHONE- at least 30 minutes before bed. (No, you won't die) If you're feeling a little "extra," do some gentle stretching and take some nice deep breaths. Doing this actually "shuts off" the Fight or Flight side of your nervous system, reduces heart rate, blood pressure and allows you to drift off into blissful sleep.
5) Get at least 15 minutes of fresh air/day. Get out from under the fluorescent lights and go outside. The Vitamin D from the sun does a body good, and the fresh air will help you to clear your mind.
