Rule #1 When It Comes To Outdoor Training: "KNOW THY ENEMY."
The weather is your enemy.
Cold temps and gusty winds cause a lot of stress on muscles and joints. Keeping them warm and well hydrated is of primary importance for athletic performance, and Gainz protection.
Here's A Few Tips To Keep You Safe And High Performing While Training Outdoors During Cold Weather:
Warm up before heading outside
Wear appropriate gear that provides warmth, and also wicks perspiration away from your body
Your outermost layer of clothing should make you as visible as your safety vests do (bright colors, reflective striping, etc)
Pay extra attention when selecting winter gear for your head (especially if you are "follicularly-challenged"), hands and feet. As you know, heat is lost quickly from these areas.
HYDRATE. Dehydration is a consequence of training, regardless of what the outside temperature is. Fluid is lost throughout the body due to insensible water loss (i.e. from an increased Respiratory Rate while training), sweat, and as a byproduct of cellular respiration/metabolism. **Fluid loss occurs during your workout and for HOURS afterwards**
