Strength, power, balance, resistance and agility...those are some of the descriptors and qualities we embrace in our athleticism.
But can we be honest for a quick sec? Sometimes things in life hit you out of nowhere and can take you down for the count.
At the time I write this, we're living in unprecedented times with a global pandemic affectionately known as COVID-19. I know a lot of you are going through some $#!+ dealing with the fallout from it.
But let's face it: even if the things you're facing aren't related to the virus, big life changes such as starting over, or dealing with family issues, the loss of a loved one, an unexpected diagnosis, a breakup...all of it can really take a toll on you.
As your Coach, you're extraordinarily important to me. Yes, we love to push the boundaries of our athleticism. Yes, we love to crush our goals. And yes, we most definitely use our workouts as a source of therapy to blow off steam and the effects of stress.
But sometimes life kicks you in your mouth, and as strong as you may be, it can take you down for the count. I know from personal experience what it's like to lose loved ones. I know what it's like to be stood up, cheated on and manipulated. I know what it's like to lose everything and start over. I know what it's like to feel like you're a kite struggling to take flight, and every time you get some lift, you instead end up in a continual crash pattern along the ground. I know what it's like to have marked victories and then go through a Season of ruthless losses, where not only is your confidence shattered, but you feel like you got flushed down the toilet.
I share that with you to impress upon you that we're all human. No matter who you are, where you come from, how strong you are, there will times that life will test you to your limits.
There will be times when you feel overwhelmed and wonder, "Do I have what it takes to adapt, overcome and conquer?
Times when you're actually SUB Ground Zero, and all's ya got to dig yourself out is a teaspoon. (You know what I'm talking about, right?)
I'm writing this blog post for you, because everyone needs someone in their corner. Someone to keep it real, and show you how to stand up on your little Bambi legs, and move this situation forward.
Serious situations call for Straight Talk, and some Vantage Pointe Coaching so we can start with the proper perspective.
Without further delay, let's jump right in and ask ourselves a few questions to get our mental space right and tight so we can move forward.
Riddle me this, Batman/Batgirl:
Do you think anybody would ever learn to ride a bike if their focus was on FALLING?
Do you think any doctor, nurse or medic would ever be able to successfully and swiftly start an IV or intubate a patient (whether it’s COVID-19 related or not) if their focus was on FAILING?
Do you think that any woman in an abusive relationship would ever leave, if her focus was on WORRYING how she would finance herself or her children?
HELL TO THE NO.
This is where $#!+ gets real, Peeps. This is where you dig down-DEEP down and make the DECISION that you’re gonna WIN whatever game YOU’RE playing.
What you’re going through right now is probably pretty frickin scary to say the least.
You may LITERALLY be in the position where you are starting over. From Ground Zero. Or even worse-needing to dig yourself out of a hole first, because you’re SUB-Ground Zero.
I’ve been there and I remember all too well what it’s like.
I know what it’s like to go without food for a few days. I know what it’s like to be freaking out about how you’re gonna keep a roof over your head or pay your bills. I know what it’s like to cry yourself to sleep because you can’t believe this is your life and you have no clue how in the complete hell you’re gonna get yourself out of this.
If there’s any one piece of advice I would give you, it’d be this: DECIDE TO RISE.
DECIDE THAT IT’S GOING TO WORK OUT IN YOUR FAVOR AND FOR YOUR GOOD.
You don’t need to know “how” right now. The Decision comes BEFORE the “how-to.”
Did you hear that? THE DECISION COMES BEFORE THE “HOW-TO.”
Take a quick minute and let the dust settle.
You know what I know about you? You’re a fighter.
It may have been a while since you had to unleash that fight within you, but it’s there. It’s simply been resting dormant.
Think of all the terrible and hard things you’ve been through up to this point. Guess what? YOU’RE STILL HERE.
Sometimes you just to remind yourself who the F you are.
You’re not just a Survivor; you’re a mutha-effin WARRIOR.
A warrior with fight. A warrior with heart. A warrior with grit. A warrior who is passionate and tenacious and WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO ENSURE VICTORY for themselves, for their Family, or for their Team.
You’re battle-tested. You’re ready. AND YOU’RE GONNA WIN. Period. End of story.
