Figure Chick’s Fashion Tips For Dressing An X-Frame

Wide Shoulders-Tiny Waist-And A Nice Set Of Legs:  The Hallmark Features of A Well-Developed X-Frame.

With the right clothing, we look great.  However, the choice of clothing with those proportions leave us with 3 choices:  bathing or posing suits, workout clothes and a towel.

As Nina (one of my Figure Suit Designers) used to say in her thick Russian accent,"  You girlzzz- you not-ah FHAT!  You just...BUMPY!"

Which brings us to FigureChick Problem #2:  “Normal” people clothes just don’t fit.

Who else can relate to this?

Your shoulders are too wide for most dress shirts.  If you're lucky enough to find a shirt wide enough to hold your shoulders, you look like you're wearing a paper bag, because the ENTIRE SHIRT is bigger.

Your V-taper makes finding the right fitting bra a joke.  Bras are designed for a straight up and down torso; NOT for a woman whose lats flare when she lifts her arms.

And don't even get me started on pants.  What fits today will certainly NOT fit the day after Leg or Deadlifting Day. You can guarantee that you’ll be looking like you’re preppin for a flood because they’re always 2” shorter and you can see your ankles below the hemline.

Then there’s the issue of the leg to waist ratio.  Having Quads and a tiny waist is simply not compatible with fashion plates.  Ain't no way my quads are fitting into skinny jeans any time soon (nor do I want to), and once you make some bootie gainz, you walk around HOPING you don't drop anything on the floor, because one wrong move and those suckers will rip with the tenacity of Hulkette.

Luckily, there are some new clothing brands who are attempting to overcome these dilemmas by cutting the patterns differently and using stretchy fabrics.

But sometimes Yoga Pants or Lycra-Made Jeans just won't cut it.  There are times when you need to dress up or simply have to upgrade your wardrobe for professional reasons.

Here's A Few Fashion Tips For Dressing A Muscular Frame:

DON'T FALL PREY TO THE MIND F!  Part of the challenge when you begin adding some sexy muscle to your frame is the mind F it plays with how clothing fits, and consequently how you feel when shopping for well fitting clothing.

Two things you need to know straight off the bat:

1) Standard clothing is not designed for anyone with muscles.

2) Anatomically, muscle sits UNDER your fat and displaces fat in weird directions (especially around your bra!) and that can make you FEEL fat.  Know that going in.

STRETCHY MATERIAL IS YOUR FRIEND.

They provide you with a lot of leeway to remain well-dressed, put together and keep up with your constantly changing physique WITHOUT having to constantly go out and buy new clothes every week.

WRAP-AROUND PIECES THAT CINCH AT THE WAISTLINE FOR THE WIN!

Think form-fitting dresses and tops where one side overlaps the other and cinches at the waist.

These enhance your curves and allow you to showcase your hard earned work in a feminine and beautiful way. You’re able to see the Muscular DeVelopment Of Your pecs and also highlight the femininity of your clavicles. And when you couple that with the ability to cinch the garment at the waist-SHAZAAM! You look like a million bucks, and feel like it, too!

Not only do these compliment a V-taper/X-Frame, but they also function like adjustable clothing and basically grow with you.  Awesome for your constantly changing style needs and even more awesome for your bank account!

SHOULDER CUT OUTS.

Tops with a shoulder cut out are awesome because you can actually MOVE in them, and you get to showcase your nice rounded caps.  The biggest challenge is finding a suitable bra that doesn’t stick out and’ll be supportive-but barring that-these are phenomenal.

 SKIRTS WITH THE RIGHT CUT.

A sexy black skirt (that’s got some stretch to it) that’s cut similar to an upside down flower bud.  It gives you room in the right places and still accentuates the feminine silhouette.    You can wear it any time of year, dress it up or down, and you can use it interchangeably and often.  It’s a Figure Girl’s best friend.

SHOES & FOOT CARE.

You can absolutely rock a high heel.  They will enhance your posture and totally showcase your Legs.  That being said...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE- Be sure that your feet look pretty.  Ya can’t be looking all smooth from the ankle up and walk around with a gnarly set of feet from the Dragon’s Lair.

As athletes, our feet take a beating.  Callouses and blisters come with the territory.  When you take care of your feet, they’ll take care of you.

Work these into your routine and all you’ll have to do when it’s time to dress up is apply a little polish to your toenails:

Cut your toenails STRAIGHT ACROSS to avoid ingrown toenails.

Invest in a foot file and use it in the shower.

Moisturize.  Moisturize.  Moisturize.  (Depending how you feel about petroleum jelly, you can apply it and put your socks on over it.  I personally use it and find it keeps the gnarly feet at bay)

POSTURE & A SMILE.

Lastly and most importantly, stand up tall and wear a smile. Focus on lengthening your spine, keep your shoulder blades down and back, draw in your Abdominals in and walk with confidence. You’ve worked HARD for that muscle-Own It.
