Sparking Your Metabolism: Part 2

We're back for Part 2 of Sparking Your Metabolism, and I know for many women, the whole issue of "revving your metabolism" is fueled by the desire to look a certain way.

Yeah, sure, you can tell me about your athletic and performance goals, and I'm all about them, too; but let's face it-EVERYONE LIKES TO LOOK GOOD.

I respect that's one of your goals-it's one of mine, too.

I'm not going to waste either of our time with a discussion of the validity of an aesthetic goal.  We each have our own goals.

What I will tell you is this:  Typically, mere aesthetic goals are not enough to keep women engaged for the long haul.

Human beings are designed to grow, develop and achieve.  It's when we make progress that we feel most alive, isn't it?

I always encourage my athletes to set PERFORMANCE GOALS, because it honors your wiring for continual progress.  And everyone knows, when you perform like a true athlete-the aesthetics always follow.

What Does This Have To Do With My Metabolism?

I'm about to drop a knowledge bomb on you.  One that holds your performance AND aesthetic goals; and will also challenge you to think in a different and more effective way about your fueling and hydration strategies to train your metabolism and achieve those goals.

HERE'S THE PEARL:  Your body doesn't care about your goals.  Your body only cares about keeping you alive.

That being said, the process of metabolic training is about fueling your body's energy & nutritional demands and is marched out is like a tiered system:

  • You first have to give your body what it needs to keep you alive- we're talking BASICS:  your heart beating, and your lungs breathing.

  • Then you have to give it the energy, nutrients and hydration to supply your daily activities-like brushing your teeth, and going to work.

  • Any extra energy demands you place on your body-mentally and physically:  working out, moving, opening a business, going back to school-require ADDITIONAL energy, nutrients and hydration, and have to be supplied in order for your to see results.

FAILURE TO SUPPLY ENERGY, NUTRIENTS AND WATER TO ALL 3 LEVELS WILL PREVENT YOU FROM REALIZING ANY RESULTS AESTHETICALLY OR WHAT YOU SEE PERFORMANCE WISE.

Let's have an intelligent conversation, Girl.

Can we agree that as women, our first go-to is cutting back on food, and portions to lose body fat?

 Yes.

And when it comes to FAT loss, are mindful considerations for calories and other nutritional concepts important?

Of course.

Here's what you've got to be mindful of:  Habits of underfeeding/undernourishing your body are incompatible with a normal life, AND they actually cause your metabolism to come to a screeching halt sooner or later.  (Trust me, I've been there!!)

Here's where we plug in the concept of establishing metabolic trust:  To release body fat, your metabolism has to be able to trust you-ALL THE TIME.

REGARDLESS OF YOUR GOALS OR THE AMOUNT OF EXTRA BODY FAT ON YOUR FRAME, YOU CANNOT "DIET" THROUGH THE PROCESS OF METABOLIC TRAINING.

It requires patience, attention, prioritization, care, consistency and love.

Here's how we roll in my academy:  All women like to have target goals; something to focus on.

For this reason, we are shifting our focus into fueling our body's energy demands in order to gain metabolic trust and get it working in our favor.   We call this EATING FOR ENERGY.

It's a different perspective, and one that takes the insane pressure off of "dieting" and puts you immediately into the Driver's Seat to become more in tune with your body, and command every cell in your body to align with your fitness goals.   Stay Tuned...
