Start With The Impossible And Work Back To The Ridiculous
Any goal can seem overwhelming until you take a step back and realize one thing: Every Goal Has A Bunch Of Mini-Goals Leading Up To It.
Get into the habit of viewing your goals in this fashion, and it will not matter how far away, how grandiose, or how impossible it seems-your method of operation will automatically default to:
Starting with the impossible and working back to the ridiculous.
Ridiculous as in, "this step is so ridiculously obvious and easy."
Ridiculous as in taking that step is a no-brainer.
Here's Why: When you set ridiculously small goals, they're easily achieved, and are the quickest way to spark momentum.
Momentum is much easier to steer than it is to generate-so you've already accomplished a major feat! But here's where it get's even better...
it becomes a natural progression for you to set a higher or bigger goal without much resistance. In fact, you are kind of awed and intrigued on what would happen if you moved the needle just a bit; and so you do!
That's exactly how Champions are built-by starting out with the big picture, and breaking down each and every one of the big goals into ridiculously simple and basic ones until it becomes a habit.
What is a goal you have been wanting to work on, but have been procrastinating because it seems too overwhelming to begin?
Let's throw down a challenge, shall we? Let's start with your BIG goal.
What is it?
Name it, define it-as clearly as humanly possible.
Now let's work backwards and break it down to the ridiculous.
What's one ridiculously TINY goal you can tackle today that would bring you closer towards achieving that big goal?
Got it? Awesome.
Then in the words of Nike, "Just Do It."
