The Way To A Man's Heart Is Through His Stomach
Whether your man is big, brawny, and loud, or more quiet and reserved; there is one theme that rings true: Men don’t want to be told what to do, especially when it comes to their health. Despite this, our men long to be cared for. (Sigh)
If your man could use a little 9-1-1 in the health and wellness department, but refuses to embrace your attempts to help him, do not despair. Take a few moments to yourself, as we travel into a place not regularly explored: the male psyche...
Before we press forward, Ladies, I would like to take a quick moment and handle some serious business.
The first is a quick expectation alignment: This is not a male-bashing column.
The second is actually a request: My request is that you handle this information with the same sensitivity you would want when sharing one of your deepest secrets.
Cool? Ok...without further adieu, The Male Psyche.
If you've never trained or coached with me before, the one thing to expect is that we begin with the fundamentals and basic concepts (so that everyone's on the same page); and layer on more advanced concepts from there.
Our fundamentals about The Male Psyche are rooted in one of my favorite topics: The Brain. Specifically the parts of the brain (anatomy) and how it works (physiology).
Here's What You Need To Know, Ladies:
-
It is scientific fact that men’s brains are bigger than ours.
-
It is also a scientific fact that a woman’s brain has more connections than a man’s; which allows us to multi-task better than they can.
-
Neither of these differences imply intellectual capability-they are simply wired to work DIFFERENTLY.
-
Despite these anatomical and resultant differences in functionality, men have dichotomous thoughts just like we do. The challenge is that they have a harder time processing these thoughts, and men are guarded by their deep need to be respected.
-
Most men dislike change (but I'm not sure if that has scientific roots or not.)
So how does this all tie into health and fitness?
Ladies, I suggest we take a smart and strategic approach. And with that, assume the position of Queen.
“A Woman is like the Queen in a game of chess. It is her job to protect the King.”
